Our Favorite Back to School Books

boy reading books

IT’S TIME FOR BACK TO SCHOOL!!!! Sorry for shouting, but I am ready. Any other parents out there doing a little happy dance about school starting? It’s been a really good summer and we did lots of new things with Hayden. He’s come a long way in the last couple of months and really grown a lot, so I’m excited to see everything he will accomplish this year. To get him ready and excited for school, I’ve pulled out some of our favorite books for us to read (over and over and over again). Here’s what we’ve been reading.

The Pout Pout Fish Goes to School

We are big fans of the Pout Pout Fish books, but this one is definitely my favorite. It is about a young Mr. Fish getting discouraged by all the things he can’t do, until he learns a very important lesson about a positive attitude and working hard.

The Little Engine That Could

This one is a classic. Hayden is a lot smaller than most kids his age so I love reading him stories about characters who are smaller than everyone else, but are still capable of doing amazing things. You don’t have to be big to make a difference, which is a good lesson for any kid I think.

The Little Blue Truck

Hayden was on a big Little Blue Truck kick for a while, so I think we have every book they’ve written. Out of all the books in this series that we have, this is one of the best. This book teaches a great lesson about the importance of being kind of others.

Are Pirates Polite?

Any book that talks about manners is a good one and this one involves pirates, so H and I are both happy. The illustrations are cool and it’s a great way to talk about all the ways we can be polite.

So that’s it! Those are some of the books that we’ve been reading to get ready to head back to school. And since I’ll have some more free time I may actually be able to read some books of my own, preferably ones that don’t rhyme. Let me know what your kids are reading to get pumped up for the year!
