We’ve had a lot of highs with Hayden lately, but

We’ve had a lot of highs with Hayden lately, but tonight was not one for the books. We figured the few small fireworks we got would be a breeze like they’ve been the last couple of years.... 🤦🏻‍♀️🥴💥

He had a huge meltdown that left us feeling pretty defeated. 2/3 of us ended up in tears and the whole day felt like a total bust (it wasn’t, but it felt like it). We wallowed for a bit and felt all the feels, which IMO, is an important part of our journey every once in a while. After a little self-pity party and some Independence Day, we’re ready to start fresh in the morning. 💔😢😔

The neighborhood fireworks woke him up and he was upset all over again, so he’s currently snuggled in our bed watching Trolls 2 looking pretty sweet and happy, which is ultimately what matters. 📽😌❤️

Holidays are hit or miss for special needs families. All the “extras” we have to do for our kids become so routine that it’s easy to forget that it’s extra. Holidays can be a real punch-in-the-gut reminder of how different our lives are from most of our friends. Most days are great, but the bad ones can be a doozy for the whole family. Give yourself permission to be mad at the universe if you need to and find ways to still celebrate the occasion. You can’t be a Bitter Betty forever, but you can wallow for a bit.

If any of you are in the same situation, I hope this makes you feel a little less alone and a little more ready to face tomorrow. We’re all in this together. 💪🏻😊🏆
