I recently wrote a post for Destin 30A Moms Blog about some of my favorite parenting podcasts (you can check out that post here). But if you’re not a podcast kind of person, there are some great websites and communities online as well!
It’s become part of my morning routine to check out these resources for a quick dose of insight, perspective and laughs before I start my day.
This one is for my local mom readers! Destin 30A Moms Blog is THE resource to find your local mom community! It’s a one stop shop for local events, resources, and great conversations with fellow beach mamas. We live in a unique area, so why not connect with other women who know exactly what you’re going through (like the nightmare that is beach parking when you have toddlers and more beach gear than you have arms to carry)? Plus, they may have some great new shortcuts to avoid all the insane tourist traffic we’re about to have. Seriously, if anybody has any ideas on avoiding 98, I would love to hear them.
I have met some great women through this site already, and I’m still a newbie! Be sure and join the Facebook group too! If you’re not in the Destin area, see if there’s a Moms Blog that is local to your area. There are sites all over the country!
This is a great resource for every stage of motherhood from pregnancy and the newborn haze, to toddlerhood and beyond. I also love that a lot of their posts are written by professionals about the psychology of WHY kids act the way they do. Honestly, the more sites I can check out to try and decipher the Crazy Toddler Train, the better so I’d love some more suggestions. I am always trying to see things from my tiny human’s perspective, and having some background knowledge on his “reasoning” helps me not completely lose my shit when he freaks out about the cookie I give him (is it the chocolate chips or the m&ms that are throwing him off? The world may never know). Clearly, I haven’t found the answer to that particular issue yet, but I’m still searching.
If you haven’t already, go check them out! You can search the site by your kiddo’s age, a particular topic, or the stage of your life (marriage, work life, etc) and definitely sign up for their newsletter. I love getting their emails and I have a list of articles that they have shared on Facebook to go read. They are such a helpful and encouraging resource and you need Mother.ly in your life!
We all know and love Scary Mommy, but I wanted to share it for the new moms out there. I can’t say enough about how many laughs and “omg me too!” moments that I get from their posts.
It’s easy to feel like a complete lunatic and that your house is a special kind of chaos. This resource makes you feel way more normal.
Some days, it’s a lifesaver! They have different pages on their site for more focused topics like Special Needs, Tweens, College/Empty Nest, etc. Plus, the comments section is always a good place for a laugh. Next time you’re up in the middle of the night because your children have taken that whole “early bird catches the worm thing” way too literally, there are hours of entertainment to be found on Scary Mommy. Plus, I’ll be up too so we can chat!
There are SO MANY groups out there, so spend some time and find the Mom resources that speak to you. Whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, or an entire website, it’s important to have somewhere you can turn for guidance and community. Join one, or join them all! I follow tons of parenting pages that follow similar themes (positive parenting, funny mom memes, special needs, etc). Since they share similar articles, it is a great way to remind me of their tips because I’ve seen the same posts throughout the day.
Comment below and share with me some of YOUR favorite places for parenting tips!
